Other LAN Computers Not Showing Up In Windows Explorer

August 25, 2018
  • Here’s a networking problem I recently came across. For some reason, the main computer could no longer see the other computers on the network.
  • All of the computers have access to the internet and all of the computers have the same workgroup name, and all have Windows 10. In fact, I could still access computers through old shortcuts on my desktop. I just was not able to view the other computers, even though network discovery was turned on.

  • After doing some research online, I found the following solution. This involves changes to some startup settings in services.msc.

1. Hit the ‘Windows‘ and ‘R‘ keys, then type in services.msc

2. Make sure that the following services are set to automatic startup, and that they are started.

  • DNS Client
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  • SSDP Discovery
  • UPNP Device Host

3. Note that these steps must be performed on each computer on the local network.

Hopefully this will work for you.
